Senior CAD technician for Bridges, Railways & Highways

CAD drafting, modelling and drawing-pack support for Bridges, Railways and Highways – from one experienced CAD technician, built on real project delivery.

CAD for Bridges, Railways and Highways

Mersham Design Consultancy is Jiten Halai – a one-person CAD practice delivering drafting, 3D/BIM modelling and drawing-pack support for Bridges, Railways and Highways. Clients work directly with one technician, not a rotating team.

Work sits alongside the engineers – producing and coordinating the CAD that supports their designs.

About me

I am Jiten Halai, a CAD technician, and Mersham Design Consultancy is my one-person practice. If you appoint MDC, you work directly with me.

I have a decade of experience as a CAD technician, working beyond routine drawing production into 3D modelling, checking and automation. I produce the drawings in MicroStation, Bentley OpenBuildings Designer and AutoCAD, for bridges, railways and highways, and I also produce residential and commercial CAD, and point cloud to 3D. I have worked with engineers and with teams from small offices to large consultancies. The drawings still have to move cleanly through a small office, and land correctly in a large multidisciplinary BIM environment.

I started in 2014 as a civil engineering apprentice at Mott MacDonald: four days in the office, one day at college towards an NVQ Level 3 Civil Engineering diploma, learning CAD standards beside a senior mentor. Since then I have worked as a CAD technician, CAD coordinator and 3D modeller, on site and remote.

I am currently with ALM Technical on rail civils schemes, including the Manchester Airport platform remodel, Gobowen Siphon and Rhymney River culverts, in MicroStation and AutoCAD. At Pell Frischmann, from August 2024 to August 2025, I produced the CAD steelwork and layout drawings for TfL’s Gallows Corner Flyover, including headroom checks and CAD checks against internal standards, with the highways team and the structural engineers. At VEDA, from November 2022 to August 2025, I was the sole CAD technician on packages such as Tilehurst Station and Wymondham Subway.

Earlier CAD work includes Brent Cross West at WSP, the Colne Valley Viaduct at Rendel, where I coordinated a six-person CAD team, Euston enabling works at Atkins, Thames Tideway at OTB, and Network Rail track crossings at Global Rail Construction. Day to day I draft and model in 2D and 3D, and I run clash detection, CAD QA and drawing-pack coordination.

I produce and coordinate the CAD alongside the engineers.

My Core Values

Tech-forward CAD delivery

Delivery is deliberately tech-forward for a CAD practice: custom in-house tools and dashboards owned by Mersham Design Consultancy (not off-the-shelf SaaS), used to systemise meetings, action owners, markups and package tracking.

Automation and AI-assisted checks are already part of the workflow called out on the home page – helping catch clashes, missing levels and other human error before issue. Where useful, those tools are built with modern APIs and carefully scoped custom development (including MCP-style integrations used internally to assemble the tooling). That is how the practice builds its own systems; it is not offered as a separate client-facing MCP product.

Delivery follows a structured process, backed by the custom tools above – so coordination stays clear and packages stay sharp:

How My Professional Contracts Reduce Risk and Save Costs?

At Mersham Design Consultancy, contracts are set up for clear, cost-efficient CAD delivery. Clients deal directly with one technician, with transparent milestones and quality control from start to finish.

Key advantages of these contracts:

  • Clear deliverables and timelines: Detailed milestones so you know what is due at every stage.

  • Cost predictability: Fixed pricing and clear budgeting to avoid surprise costs.

  • Practical contingency: Sensible planning so drawing-pack delivery stays on track when things change.

  • Hands-on CAD oversight: Over a decade of CAD experience, with strict quality control on every package.

  • Custom tools on the job: Systems owned by Mersham Design Consultancy and used on the work – for meetings, action owners, and automation. Those tools keep improving over time.

What you get working with MDC:

  • One point of contact: A one-man band, not a faceless department.

  • CAD craft: Precise 2D/3D modelling and detailing across bridges, rail and highways packages.

  • Clear communication: Direct updates, aligned to your objectives.

  • Efficiency through technology: CAD expertise plus custom tools and workflows developed around the work.

  • Lasting value: Cleaner packs and better CAD workflows that still help after the drawings are issued.

The aim is simple: an efficient, transparent CAD service that gets the package over the line while keeping cost and disruption under control.
